The rum auction RCA2024-09 ends on 20 November 2024 and we would like to use the time to tell you about a few rare highlights.
A very special bottle worth talking about is the Domaine de Severin 1984 - a historic Guadeloupe rum.
After rum was produced at Guadeloupe Island as early as 1697, production continued to develop and by the end of the 17th century, Guadeloupe was one of the largest rum producers in the region. After many economic and political crises and recurring natural disasters, many of the distilleries had to close their doors again in the years that followed.
The Distillerie du Domaine de Severin was founded later in 1928 by the Marsolle family. Until the mid-1960s, the rhum was distilled in a pot still - which, however, was so badly damaged in an accident that a Creole column still with internal copper plates was built in 1966. This rare rum was also distilled on this back in 1984. Due to a new setup of the still and the associated switch to stainless steel, the distillate changed again significantly in the 1990s. The distillery is now closed, and the distillery has been dismantled – so we have an irreplaceable Rum today!
The bottle offered in the auction is definitely a piece of the history of rum production in Guadeloupe. The rum was bottled in 1992 with an age of 8 years and an alcohol strength of 45%. Interesting for collecting but also to enjoy liquid history by drinking.
Have fun and good luck bidding!
